What a Great Trip: A little over a year ago Starlyn and Jim Fikkert asked themselves, what do we want to do for the next 5 years?  Well, after a combined 60 years in the corporate world we took a little time out.  We soon knew we did not want to go back.  You’ve heard it before, change is inevitable, it’s a good thing, if you’re not changing you’re not living.  There are hundreds of books on change. Do you know that you can drive across Arizona on dirt roads?  Well, actually you can’t avoid crossing paved roads but that doesn’t count.  Keep in mind there may be a gate or two but that is not a problem, just be sure to close it after passing thru. Starlyn and I started our trip in Tulare California.  That’s the same Tulare as in John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath”.  I really enjoyed that book and felt the movie version with Henry Fonda was well done.  Tulare is a great little community with many people living out their lives, dreams and ambitions there. Starlyn is from New Mexico and I’m from Green Bay Wisconsin (go Pack go). Somehow we both grew up with a desire to be by or on or in great waters. Maybe because I lived by the great lakes and because Starlyn grew up in a great desert. It doesn’t matter, we both love the water. Guess what, that’s kind of missing in Tulare. Usually with great waters you find great bays or gulfs.  Technically they are the same with a gulf usually being larger than a bay.  There are always exceptions for example the Bay of Bengal is larger than the Gulf of Mexico.  Great Gulf Signs just doesn’t sound right. Great Bay Signs, I like the sound of that. It was time for a change.  The trip begins.
