Wondering how to tackle mold growth in your shower caulk? Here are some solid tips to help you out! Mold is inarguably one of the nastiest and most harmful items that can grow in your bathroom. Even though mold spores can be found everywhere in the house, they tend to thrive in a moist and humid environment, such as your bathroom and in particular your shower. If mold is left to grow unchecked, it can spread quickly in your shower caulk, stick to the grout, and start to grow behind it. This is why as soon as you spot mold growing in your shower caulk, you should deal with it right away. Here are some tips to get rid of mold in your shower caulk: Spray Ammonia Only use this method if you have good ventilation in your bathroom and you should wear a respirator that can absorb ammonia fumes so that you do not breathe them in. For this method, mix one part ammonia with one part water in a container in an aerated area. Use a funnel to pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the solution evenly on to your shower caulk and make sure to get the corners. Let the mixture sit on the surface for 10 minutes and then use a small brush to scrub the caulk. The mold will come right out. Dry the area with a cloth. Use Bleach Again, make sure to ventilate your bathroom and dust the shower area before you start cleaning. Stir one part bleach into one gallon of water. You can apply the bleach mixture to caulk three ways – sponge, spray bottle, or cotton coils. Sponging works best for smaller mold colonies. Simply soak a sponge in the bleach solution, squeeze it, and then scrub your shower caulk with it. For spraying, use a funnel to transfer the solution into a spray bottle and spray it on the caulk. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinse it off with water. Use cotton coils for stubborn mold that has spread. Soak the coils in the solution. Use a pointy object to insert them into the holes of your caulk. Leave the coils in place overnight and remove them in the morning. Use a sponge to scrub the caulk afterward. Use Vinegar Spray a solution of vinegar and water on the affected area. Let it sit on the surface for an hour. Use a brush or sponge to scrub the caulk and then rinse it with water. Spray Hydrogen Peroxide Use hydrogen peroxide that has a concentration of 3%. Spray the peroxide on the shower caulk until the entire area is soaked in it. Let the solution sit on the surface for 10 minutes and then scrub it with a sponge or brush. Use a paper or cloth towel to dry the area afterward. Spray a Borax Solution Mix one part borax in ten-part water and spray the solution onto your shower caulk. Scrub and dry the area to get rid of the mold growth. Even though all of these methods will temporarily get rid of the mold growing on the surface of your shower caulk, it will not help you eradicate the mold growth in your home. To do this, you must hire a mold removal and remediation company to effectively tackle the mold problem at hand.
