Routed Dimensional Crosses 3-D Signs does a lot of dimensional signage. Something we started doing a few years ago was routing crosses for a local church. The 95 year old pastor came to us looking for an easier way to make crosses that he & some of the other members were making by hand. What he did was, he would hand cut a 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood into pieces that were 4’’ x 6’’. Then he would cut them into crosses. After they had the cross cut they would sand them & hand route a bevel around the sides.  Then they would stain the crosses. These small crosses are sent in a package with 2 pair of socks, some candy & a hand written letter to the service men & women overseas. When we at 3-D Signs knew we could do something to make his life easier. We started routing the crosses on our 4’ x 8’ CNC router. We could route a sheet of 350 – 400 crosses in about  6 hours. The machine has to run slow so they get a good cut. This was a way 3-D Signs could give back to the community. It is an exciting project that we took on to help speed up the process & get to the to the end result. We store a few sheets of plywood so we can cut crosses in our down time. The pastor also does larger crosses that he makes by hand & asks for donations. All the donations from the larger crosses go to help feed & cloth the homeless in Orange & LA counties. He has been doing this for over 30 years. What an incredible human being. Please see the attached pictures & article.
