BEFORE
Harbor Motor Sports is a used car dealership in Costa Mesa, CA. They sell sports cars, luxury vehicles and even offer financing. With a great inventory of everything from BMWs to Mercedes to high performance motorcycles all they needed was a new sign to attract people driving by their busy street.
New to the location, Harbor Motor Sports needed to replace their outdoor pole sign – and fast. Prior to Harbor Motor Sports there was a medical cannabis dispensary operating out of the location. So you can see why there was an urgency to get the sign changed out as soon as possible.
Seen in the images above and below, the sign is very large with two 6’ x 12’ panels – one on each side. We went with a product called Lexan, which is a brand name for polycarbonate. What is superior about this product is that in large sign applications it can be produced without seams. Acrylic, for example, comes standard in 4’ x 8’ sheets and sometimes 4’ x 10.’ For a sign that is 6′ x 12′ you would have seams in a sign this large if you ended up choosing acrylic as your material. Lexan can be produced in larger sizes and was printed with a very large flat bed printer that applies ink directly to the surface of the Lexan. It took three men to put these into place.
Another reason Lexan is a better choice for this application is durability. Acrylic is also very brittle, but Lexan can take a blow from vandals or other potential damage. Lexan is so strong that when gets to about 2″ thick it becomes bullet-proof.
In the AFTER picture below you can see that the cabinet is still scuffed up a bit. It was later painted to make the sign look even better.
Sorry about the ladders in the after pic!
