In the image below you’ll see a lobby sign that we recently made for BIVAR, a company that specializes in PCB assembly and packaging hardware, optoelectronics and LED assemblies in Irvine, CA. BIVAR does a great job producing LED lights of various kinds. With the commercial lighting industry moving towards LED lights (because of their efficiency and bright light), we need companies like BIVAR to lead the way in providing the world with the latest in lighting technologies.
BIVAR came to us because they had a blank white wall that was very bland and wanted to use it. They wanted to put up something very clean, yet very striking that would catch the eye.
In person you can really see how this sign pops, and it has to do with the technique we used. First we created the base layer which was cut by a router out of 3/4 inch think acrylic. This gives us the shape of all the elements, letters and horizontal line.
For the ‘BIVAR’ lettering we back painted (painted on the back of) clear 1/8 inch acrylic letters that we then mounted to the 3/4 inch thick acrylic letters. What this does is create the coloring in the BIVAR letters from the inside, retaining the shine from the clear acrylic. You see the light reflection in the image above on the ‘R’ of BIVAR.
For the ‘moving light’ lettering we made the letters colored with a gradient or fade. Notice how the color fades from blue to yellow along the color spectrum. To achieve this we printed the letters out first and then applied them to the back of the same 1/8” clear acrylic.
Our client really wanted a striking lobby sign to fill their empty wall.
We were both happy with the result.
