The sign is lighted by LED's which we have written about extensively. Customers as few as five years ago use to almost exclusively choose neon for their lighted outdoor signs. However, because of lower LED costs, and because LED's consume so much less power than neon, we are seeing LED's used almost exclusively these days.
LED's are rated from 100,000 hours of use to 200,000 hours. Even then if an LED fails, the sign continues to light well as the LED's are unaffected. If neon goes out, several letters will go dark. Also, because LED's are 12 volt as opposed to 15,000 volt neon, installation requires fewer man hours because 12 volt wiring does not have to be sheilded the way neon wiring does.
Neon is a fascinating technology, and open neon can provide a stunning affect, but Sign Clemente welcomes the exclusive use of LED's when it comes to lighted letters on outdoor signs.
