Taking Dimensional Letters with you!  when you move...

Did you know the two most common materials used throughout the sign industry are acrylic and aluminum. Business signage can take many forms such as monument signs, architectural signage, and channel letters but without doubt the most versatile type of signage is the dimensional letter. Also known as 3-D letters, these signs give dimension and color to a business sign. There are many acrylic colors to choose from and with some easy design work, a multi-colored logo sign can prove very effective.

Sign letters mounted within 10-15 feet from ground level are typically less than 1” thick. When standing below them, they give the appearance of a very high quality finish. Custom sign letters are sized up to 48” height size, the size depending upon the visibility triangle and the building’s sign criteria.

Sign letters and dimensional letters mounted above 1^st floor level are typically bigger in height and thickness. The most cost effective fabrication method for these large letters is to use a high density foam for the dimensional part of the letter, with either an aluminum or acrylic face. From the ground, they look like solid material. The foam is painted to seal from the effects of the weather.

A strong consideration when deciding on a new sign is if you intend to take it down after a few years when planning on moving to a new building. Most materials are retrievable except low density foams, so be sure to specify high density foam. The industry term for foam with an acrylic face is Foamplex. The letters are usually light-weight and may be mounted to the wall using silicone. Solid acrylic or aluminum letters will be stud mounted to the wall, which of course, will leave holes in the wall when taken down, which you as the tenant will be responsible for repair, patch and paint.
