How long do wraps last and how do they come off?
For vehicle wraps, this is usually the first thing asked by inquiring clients. Of course, it is a very good question since most companies applying wraps want a fast return on their investment and prefer to know that, once applied, the wrap adhesive will not damage the vehicle.
You need not fear; vehicle wraps have become so popular because they offer great value for their advertsing expense.  Wrap vinyl material warranty generally depends on the manufacturer, the type of lamination and the ink being used and where and how it is being applied. Â
Typically, material from 3M used with solvent ink and a cold laminator is warranted for 5 years on vehicles, though have a performance of 8 years. This depends on such variables as how well the vehicle is maintained and cleaned, the climate conditions, and most importantly, how skillfully the wrap is applied by the installer.
There are other materials of choice available if the expected term on the vehicle is say less than 2 years, then a material with 1 year warranty and a 2 year performance should be considered, since the material price will be lower in this case. The same material applied to water crafts is warranted for no more than 2 years. When used indoors, the material is warranted for 8 years.
So you see, the warranty & performance of wraps very much depends on the type of application. Vehicle wrap materials today are designed to be removed almost as easily as they are installed. With the application of some heat from a propane torch and some skill from a qualified installer that understands how the vinyl adhesive can be released from the body of the vehicle, the car will look as good as new from the day it was applied. This is why leased vehicles may be used as mobile advertising billboards. After a three year lease, removal of the wrap vinyl will not result in additional charges when the vehicle is returned to the leasing company.Â
