What type of art format do I need to provide you?
A vector file in either Illustrator or EPS format. That’s all we need, understood? Then why do we get so many files as a JPEG or PSD format, even after asking for a vector file from the most astute marketing or graphic designers? We even receive the latter saved as an EPS file which still does not cut the mustard? Why? Here’s the scoop.
A vector file contains your image that is designed from lines, lots of them. When we expand your graphic from the small image sized on your computer up to say a vehicle size wrap, there is not loss in resolution and the image remains crisp and clear. However, with a JPEG or PSD format, it is created in a format called rastor file. These are hundreds of dots just like on your tv screen. When expanding its size, you lose significant resolution because the process does not add any more dots or pixels; hence the need for a graphic created in a vector format. But behold, all is not lost if you have created a rastor file, our graphic artist may be able to recreate your artwork into a suitable vector file ready for proof and print.
