Letter Sign

Are you also looking for a stellar channel letter sign for your company but don’t know much about them? Here’s all you need to know!

Innovation is in the air. People love and demand variety, and businesses have to give that to them. Whereby customization is a practice adopted by every industry out there.

Signage manufacturing companies are continually striving for innovation. The signage business is expanding rapidly, from designing many signage styles using different materials to further developing sub-categories.

As signages have become an essential aspect of any business, many giants like Google, Dunkin Donuts, RayBan, and so on use customized channel letter signs for their outlets and corporate offices. Here is a list of types of these highly demanded channel letter signs:

Open Face Channel Letter Signs:

Also known as Neon Signs, these channel letter signs are a gift of scientific discovery that involves the emission of a vivid, luminous glow. This glow is produced by neon gas charged with electricity in a sealed glass tube.

Traditional open channel letter signs entail open letter faces that are subjected to neon illumination, usually by using an acrylic surface. Bright colored light is emitted from within the letters that instantly grab attention. Modern channel letter signs are designed using LEDs instead of neon.

Standard Lit Channel Letter Signs:

Also known as Front-Lit channel letter signs, these are the most widely used kind and mostly installed in commercial centers like shopping malls and retail marts. Letters in these signs are coated with aluminum from the back and the returns (sides).

In this kind of letter signage, the letters have their faces covered by an acrylic surface. The front face of these letters is lit from the inside by neon or LEDs.

Front and Back-Lit Channel Letters:

This kind of channel letter offers a dual glow effect. The body of these letters is divided by an aluminium plate. The specific composition of these channel letters allows light to emit from the face while producing a glow effect from the back. These letters require more LEDs to support the extra lightning function. However, the front and back end must be composed of acrylic to allow the light to pass from both ends.

You can be more creative with these letters by experimenting with colours and contrast to adjust the lighting effect as per your liking.

Halo-Lit Letter:

These letters create a halo effect around the letter-body and are also known as Reverse-lit letters. This means that the light can escape only from the back, giving a glow to the edges. To allow the light to only escape from the back, clear acrylic has to be there as the backing material. In contrast, the face of a reverse-lit channel letter must be made of opaque aluminium, which blocks the light.

In other words, the LED light is able to cross the acrylic material but is blocked by aluminium.

Final Thoughts

We hope that by now, you have a fair idea of the components and their placement in the channel letter body, along with the purpose the placement of these components serves. Now you can easily customize your channel letter signs based on your needs and lighting preferences.

If you are considering revising your business signs with these channel letters, then you should contact a local sign company today.
