Houston, TX – Selecting and Using LED Lights for Optimal Court Sports Lighting

Posted in: Industry News

Court sports are considered sports like tennis, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, or any other sport that is played on a court, as the name suggests. Just like football, soccer, or other sports have specific lighting needs, so too do court sports. It is important to have proper lighting for both players and spectators to have good visibility. Proper lighting is also essential for safety. Here are some tips to keep in mind when considering lighting for court sports.

LED Lighting

Many facilities are replacing traditional lighting with LED lights. LED lighting offers many benefits that other lighting doesn’t. For starters, LED lightings require less maintenance, helps save on energy costs, and has optimal lumen output. In order to install LED lighting, you must either upgrade existing lighting to fit LED lights or install LED lighting equipment. Consider what option is right for you. A combination of both is also possible to provide the best lighting situation for the court.

Light Poles

When installing new LED lighting, you will want to consider what type of pole to use. Poles come in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials. Determine what pole height is best for your court. Ideally, for tennis courts, a 22 ft pole is recommended. Poles will need to be enabled accordingly to spotlight on focus areas. Steel poles are the most popular material, but poles can also be concrete, aluminum, or fiberglass.

Pole Mounting

Another factor to consider is how to mount the LED lighting to the pole. There are several options. The best method for mounting will depend upon the lighting fixture you have. Knuckle mounts are used when a specific area has to be illuminated. Slip fits do just what they say and fit over standard light poles and will bolt to the pole. A flood mount with a bolt is also another common way to install LED lighting.
