SignWorks is pleased to report that a major evacuation map project that began in the fall of 2019, and was impacted by the Pandemic, is finally back on track. It is no simple task reviewing architectural drawings and developing the approval art for the floor and room evacuation maps. We began with a site survey that was completed in December of 2019 so that we could confirm such things as the egress route, location of extinguishers, pull stations and other critical map details.
The project requires a total of 25 floor maps, sized and 14” by 19” for the entry, stairs and elevators of the four story building. These maps will require a non-glare acrylic lens to ensure that they can be read in a smoky environment when fire personnel may have to shine light directly on the map to discern the fastest rout out of the building! The 160 individual room maps will be produced using heavy laminated bond paper.
Just this week we were able to supply our client with two full scale copies for her to begin the desk review process with the San Francisco Fire Department. She will need these along with a set of reference plans from the architects to complete the review and approval process. The sign permitting process in San Francisco, as in Oakland, is quite detailed and while we do not perform the permitting process for our San Francisco clients because it is more cumbersome, we will on occasion provide the service for Oakland clients. Both jurisdictions have vary guidelines.
We’ll post an update on this project once we receive any edits and corrections from the San Francisco Fire Department review, to include pictures of the finished maps mounted at the hotel.
If you are ever tagged by the Fire Department in either San Francisco or Oakland and are looking to have your evacuation maps updated or redrawn, SignWorks provides excellent service in this area. We know the guidelines and requirements for compliance with both Fire Departments and have worked on several similar projects in both locales. If you would like to discuss an upcoming project, we can be reached at (510) 357-2000. Please feel free to check out some of the pictures of similar projects at our website at www.signworks.us.com. We’re here to help!
