One of our favorite fabricators just completed an 8 ft. by 4Ft. illuminated sign cabinet along with 24” tall metal channel letters so we thought we would share some of the details (as pictured) with you. SignWorks works with many local subcontractors when it comes to illuminated signs and likes to educate our customers on recently completed projects such as this one. The aluminum sign cabinet and sides (called returns), were made using strips of metal that where bent and welded to fit around the oval base. The face is made using a piece of acrylic cut with a CNC router. The digital print features translucent vinyl such that the light from the interior LED’s will sign through to provide great night time visibility and rich color contrast.
Since the sign was being affixed a few stories above ground, a boom truck, with an articulating lift was required. This ensures that signs, the equipment needed to anchor them and the installers, can all be hoisted safely into position. And, the installers, working from the bucket at the top of the lift, can be angled into place and operate in a safe way. As with all exterior illuminated signs, a permit from the City building and zoning department is an absolute must as is a site survey to confirm site logistics and wiring requirements.
