SignWorks was thrilled when we learned that the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program was in need of a lobby sign. They knew they wanted an acrylic backer and to include stand-offs with their logo in a prominent position on the ¼” thick acrylic backer. The original sizing they requested would have left too much empty space, so our designer recommended scaling down the size to 72” wide and 32” high. After reviewing and approving the art proof showing the lobby sign positioned on the wall, we were told to begin fabrication. Though the installation was delayed due to the pandemic, we were finally able to get the finished lobby sign installed yesterday. And, as you can see from the photograph it looks great!
Lobby signs can take on a variety of flavors with and without a backer. Corporate and government clients use them to brand their wall space and to create a welcoming environment for customers, prospects and employees alike. Many of our clients use ¼” or ½” thick acrylic or metal dimensional lettering, with or without their company logo, to decorate and brand their wall space and we partner with Gemini, our wholesale supplier, to fulfill this need due to their excellent product quality and lifetime pass through warranty.
One of the advantages of using a backer for dimensional and/or cut vinyl lobby signs is that removing and updating the information is much easier. Also, when the area needs painting, that task becomes much simpler than removing lettering that is mounted directly to the wall.
The Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program, a public program mandated by the state and administered by the California Public Utilities Commission, has two components, the California Relay Service (CRS) and the California Telephone Access (CTAP) program. Both are used to provide access to basic telephone services to California’s hearing impaired community. The program is funded by a nominal surcharge on telephone bills within the state of California.
