They want three glass like etched panels but don’t want the glass to be clear as this would detract from the biblical quotes that will be fabricated as ¼” thick dimensional letters and mounted to the panels. We suggested acrylic and will use etched specialty vinyl to create the etched glass effect. The etching will simulate stones, another a map of the world, and the third a grape vine. In fact, the project reminds us of the work we did with Skybox Imaging, a company that does aerial imaging using satellites. Pictured is their logo created using etched vinyl and in this instance used as a conference room privacy barrier to minimize the “fish bowl” effect.
We have done a lot of work with clients who wanted frosted or etched vinyl applied to their glass conference windows/walls to establish privacy and minimize the “fish bowl” effect. Others, like Skybox Imaging, have wanted privacy with a little bit of design flare, choosing to integrate a design element such as their logo to add some flare and capitalize on the branding opportunity.
The degree of opacity varies but frosted/etched glass vinyl delivers a stylish and unique look at a fraction of the cost of real etched glass. It creates a look similar to the rice paper partitions used in Japanese culture. Many different textures are available and the film can be ordered in a light (fine) or dark (course) texture. And, depending on the manufacturer, the vinyl has an outdoor durability rating of up to seven years and lasts even longer indoors. Patterns can be created using dots, diamonds or hatches to make the film visually appealing.
