SignWorks is happy to report that our evacuation map project for Lincoln is now complete and that the Oakland Fire Department (OFD) approved maps were installed earlier today. We followed the OFD guidelines, incorporated some minor edits, and produced a total of nine 14” X 14” maps which were subsequently installed at the location to include the non-glare acrylic lens. The fabricated maps were then mounted at each stairwell and elevator landing on each floor.
The maps show the egress items such as extinguishers, pull stations and the like and are oriented from the perspective of the viewer. Orientation is very important in the event of a fire because the maps are diagrammed to show the most direct exit path from the building in such an emergency. And, the non-glare acrylic used as the map cover ensures the maps are legible even in smoke filled corridors when lighting isn’t optimal. The maps as pictured were installed today.
Lincoln is a non-profit organization that provides a unique array of comprehensive services and programs for the Bay Area’s most under-served and vulnerable population. They provide support services for children all the way through high school graduation. The programs engage the family and entire community. Their approach focuses on disrupting the cycle of poverty and trauma by empowering children and their families through integrated programs and personalized care.
SignWorks has many other large evacuation map projects in house at the moment including a landmark San Francisco Hotel (183 floor/room maps), a redo of the Epic Charter School maps due to revisions in their floor plan (34 maps). Further we hope to install a San Leandro Apartment Complex with 56 maps by the end of the week. We have become known for our work in this area and several other smaller evacuation map projects in house at present. Our typical process includes a detailed site visit up front. Once approved by the client we generate paper copies for them to take to the fire department for approval. Once reviewed we incorporate any final edits/revisions and fabricate the maps.
