SignWorks has been working with the construction team at American Muslim Association over the past several months as the facility was renovated and revamped. What began as a smaller evacuation map project evolved from eight 14” by 14” maps to a final count of 14 maps when new areas were built out at the property. Our understanding of the Fire Department Guidelines meant that we were able to advise the client during the process when (and where) additional maps would be required. The initial order for 8 maps was placed back in early March but some areas of the renovated space had not yet been built out.
Like many clients the staff decided to manage the Fire Marshall approval process themselves so SignWorks supplied two sets of full-sized map copies and a smaller set for them to take to the fire department. While this was a slow process for our client, once the maps were approved we got to work fabricating the vinyl maps and mounting them to the non-glare acrylic lens using an optically clear sheeting material. A backer was then added to give the map a more finished appearance. Our installer mounted each of the maps as shown in the above picture. These maps are essential to fire and safety personnel who need to know the quickest and most expedient path out of the building in the event of a fire. The map detail also includes the location of fire related equipment and other important safety related information.
The Gading Mosque serves as a masjid as well as a gathering place for Muslims in Hayward and the greater Bay Area. The center consists of an 11,000 sq. ft. building that houses the main prayer hall and private sisters’ musallah, a multi-purpose meeting area and 4,000 sq. ft. of classroom space on the second floor. The center offers educational classes for both children and adults which include studying the Qur’an and Arabic as well as lessons in Pashto and Farsi. There is also office space, a library and kitchen.
