SignWorks has been working with Lanikai Management for several years now. The company is based in southern California and manages Creekside Plaza, a large commercial property at the corner of Davis Street and San Leandro Boulevard in San Leandro. There are several multistory buildings that house commercial and government tenants, including a bank. A few months ago one of the tenants, Alameda County Health Care Services, needed to update their 7 ft. by 3 ft. Acrylic Lobby Sign.
The text detail on the original lobby sign was no longer accurate and what was thought to be cut vinyl lettering that could be readily removed and updated from the acrylic backer (based on the picture we received), turned out to be 1/8” thick black dimensional lettering. This made it impossible to reuse the original acrylic backer since we would not be able to guarantee that it would not chip or break when we attempted to remove the smaller letters. As with many government agencies, it took a little time before they were able to decide on whether to use dimensional letters or cut vinyl ones for the replacement sign. We produced two sets of layered silver and black vinyl cut vinyl samples to help with this decision.
As you can see from the attached picture the layered (silver and black) lettering mounted to an acrylic backer is complete and has been mounted in the lobby area using brushed aluminum stand-offs. We think it turned out great even though we think a thicker border around the silver lettering would have made the sign more legible. Ultimately, the client gets to decide on what they think is best.
The great thing about using a backer for dimensional and/or cut vinyl lobby signs is that removing and updating the information is much easier. Plus, when the area needs painting, that task becomes much simpler than removing lettering that is mounted directly to the wall.
