We were approached by a local non-profit called From the Garden to the Table (FGTT) or G2T to produce five etched stainless steel plaques for a local Veterans Home. The plaques would be placed in kitchen environment where veterans were being taught to cook and eat healthy meals. The material had to be able to withstand cleaning, so stainless steel was thought to be the best option since it can be cleaned with mild soapy water. The plaques were sized at 7” wide and 3.43” tall.
SignWorks, working closely with Gemini, our preferred plaque wholesaler, had initially designed these to be etched plaques, however, the intricacies and shading in the art file would be lost using an etched (with paint fill) process. Rather than making a very bland looking plaque we suggested that the client consider the Giclee process, where the art is printed directly to the plaque without etching or engraving. The process would then allow the client to preserve the color, detail, shading and gradients already in the art file. It would supply a smooth colorful print using an ink jet printer, directly onto the steel plates as opposed to having copy and shapes that were either recessed or paint filled.
We have yet to receive pictures from the client but we were happy to be part of the process and hope their recent celebratory event was a huge success!
Established in 1996 G2T focus has been to reach vulnerable youth and communities via programs that promote healthy living through physical, mental and spiritual practices that are organic and sustainable. The organization promotes an eat and live green philosophy and offers programs to youth, parents and schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Despite the tight deadlines or team worked hard to make the process, from art proof to final shipping, as smooth and efficient as possible.
