SignWorks is finally concluding the marquee sign updates at The Independent in San Francisco after a few delays. We started the project in early February but given the complexity of the sign and the fact that it is located 35 feet above ground, we needed to send a technician to confirm the measurement and the type of lift that would be required. Given the awning midway up the front of the building, we had to schedule an articulating vs. a scissor lift.
The sign, made from two sections of LEXAN, a polycarbonate, is approximately 6 feet by 6 feet. It is double sided with the top 30” of the sign used for the digitally printed logos. The remaining area is divided into 5 sections per side, used to insert changeable copy noting the acts that are being featured at any given time. Midway through this project the client had a change in their logo which caused some delays. In addition, our normal supplier for the Pronto tracking used to hold the lettering in place had stopped carrying this item. Consequently, we had to find a new supplier and wait for the material to arrive. Not to mention that we managed to crack a track and had to wait for the replacement to ship from the east coast.
As you can tell from the picture, the two man crew successfully completed the installation and the updated sign looks a lot less tired than its predecessor! The old logos had become faded and worn.
The Independent is a small and intimate no frills music venue. It’s a great place for watching indie and immerging acts. There is also a full bar. Seating is limited so arriving early is key if you want seating.
