When the gas station owner contacted us it was because the city of Moraga was insisting that the sign be updated to reflect both cash and credit pricing. The existing sign needed to be redesigned to accommodate the existing 14” pricing letters and we were not allowed to change the overall sign frame dimension.
We started with a site survey and some pictures so we could assess the scope of work. As it turned out, even with the correct measurements, the framing had settled and shifted, meaning the sign was out of square and had to be returned to the shop for additional trimming. Yikes!
As a small local family owned business it was important to the owner that the project be given priority since the city was fining him for being out of compliance. Although there were some delays due to design revisions and delayed receipt of the Pronto Tracking used to hold the numbers, the sign was fabricated and installed within 3 weeks of the final approval. Unfortunately, we lost an entire week waiting for replacement materials to arrive from the east coast.
Our designer worked with the owner to find graphics that would complement those used at the pumps since the art file for the pump graphics was not available. The double sided acrylic panels (two per side) were ordered from a local supplier and the lettering and digital graphics were applied at our facility. Because of the size of the panels we used a trailer to transport the sign panels. We mounted the Pronto tracking in the field to ensure correct placement for sliding the numbers in and out of the track.
The sign is very legible and uses contrasting colors and font to maximize visibility and to draw the eye. The pictures above show the completed sign which now conforms to the city of Moraga requirements. A picture of the original sign is shown below.
