Turner Construction is a national construction company that in partnership with Flatiron Construction was granted the BART Oakland Connector project. This project was completed last November, and supplied travelers with above ground shuttle services from BART to Oakland International Airport using recently provided shuttle trains. Turner contacted Signworks Inc. as one of the vendors to take on the challenge of providing tailored ADA signage, and evacuation maps for this project.
What began as a $38K job, quickly turned into a more than $70K signage project. There was a long survey process, where the submissions of signs were cataloged. Plans were drawn up for the products needed for the three stations (Coliseum, Airport and the Doolittle Maintenance facility in San Leandro). After the development stages were finished, there was an in-depth production done for the additional signs either missed, or added onto the original project. For the mounting and installation of this large sign package, Signworks, Inc. paired with FOCON to supply union installation services. The final result was a complete success. Our client was so thrilled, that we have already been asked to partner with them for an even larger project!
ADA Signs are an integral part of the signage of any business, but with public facilities especially! As you can see in the image above, ADA standard signs are comprised of handicapped accessible directives, and grade 2 braille. The sign was given a custom color base, and the raised lettering will allow for maximum visibility. Below is an additional ADA sign that was provided by Signworks, Inc. Again, a custom color was used, and the contrasting with the light font will give legibility to the public!
