_______________________________________________________________________________________ This particular project is a demonstration of how various materials can be combined to create signage that is unique and makes a distinct architectural statement. Corrugated aluminum fan blades are used as the back drop for 2” pin mounted metal letters spelling out the name of the clients business. The pin mounting makes the letters appear to float away from the background and makes for a very interesting effect. The ruby red neon “chop” box with Asian characters in the lower right corner adds a lighting element that makes the rest of the sign pop. The permit process had its own set of challenges because the fan blade mounting, which was being supplied by others, had to be detailed. The building permit department needed to be sure that the corrugated fans were securely attached and wanted to review the method of attachment to ensure that there were no underlying public safety issues. The pin mounting aspect of the sign was completed in a shop environment to ensure that the letters were evenly mounted on the frontal plain. The panels were then moved to the job site where they were carefully hoisted into place. The project itself was several months in the making and included a few design revisions and close coordination between the architect, general contractor, wholesale suppliers and installers.
