QR (Quick Response) Code that was originally used as a barcode system during the vehicle manufacturing process is now being used in commercial tracking applications, and as a convenience tool. This matrix or two-dimensional code, in text, URL or data form, can be read by a user’s camera phone and provides potential customers with the business owners contact information or website.Depending on the application the customer could opt to view information about a particular business via connection to a wireless network. Similarly, the user could open a webpage in the phones browser or program the business address into a GPS system to be guided to the specific address or location.
The use of QR Codes is giving rise to new marketing practices including displaying the code in magazine advertising, on signs, buses, fleet vehicles and business cards. In fact, Google’s Android Operating System supports the use of QR Codes on some models. It could be a great addition or enhancement to existing marketing materials, especially fleet graphics or, as shown above, exterior business signs!
