As a real estate agent, you have complete control of how you spend your time. Most agents don’t clock in and out, and even if you have set office hours, you’re still likely responsible for how you spend your time. Since this is the case, there should never be “busy work” or “killing time” for a successful agent, because you control your level of work.
This freedom over the way they spend their days is one of the reasons I love working with Realtors as a business coach. Combine this freedom with their entrepreneurial spirit and the way they must bet on themselves and you usually have a very driven person who will work hard to succeed.

While we cover many things in coaching, time management is key for real estate agents, and this article will focus on a few different ways I help my Realtor clients best spend the hours they have each day.
Know Your Goals
It’s amazing how many people go to work each day as a business owner or independent agent and have no idea what they want to accomplish professionally. If you’re in this category then you certainly aren’t alone, but knowing your goals helps shape the way you spend each hour of the day. If you want to be the top agent in a given area, get 20 houses to the closing table this year or have other goals, you can break them down into manageable steps and give priority in your days to these tasks. Managing your priorities is a huge step in positive time management, and if you are stressing over or spending time on something which doesn’t help you reach your goals then you need to reevaluate what you’re doing and better allocate the time.
Use the Right Resources
There are many ways to automate, delegate and schedule today which can help you better manage your time. The right resources for your needs will depend on your goals, your experience level and your investment level, but there are ways to speed up or remove tasks to allow you to focus on important things. Transaction coordinators, automated marketing tools, scheduling apps and more can all help you best use your time each day.
Avoid Multitasking
While it might seem counterintuitive to time management, it’s best to focus on one task at a time and avoid trying to do multiple things at once. Great time managers spend their time working on valuable tasks, and they deserve your full attention. Multitasking can lead to mistakes, half-way done work and distractions, so pick a task you feel is important to reaching your goals and give it your full attention before moving to the next one.
