ARTICLE:

Hondas are great cars, well known among those that drive them for their reliability. No car is perfect, however, and as reliable as Hondas can be, they have their own host of common problems. These problems can range from simple failures of the diagnostic systems to failures in the transmission systems or engine computer problems.

Different Honda models tend to have different problems. We at Fremont Foreign Auto have tons of experience servicing all of the different Honda models and can repair any problem you might have with your car.

Common Problems with Honda Cars

  1. Honda Accord

One of the most common problems you’ll find with the Accord is the failure of the ignition switch, which leads to a variety of potential symptoms, such as your car being unable to start, dying soon after starting, stalling while driving, or being unable to power your accessories, such as your radio or your windows.

Another issue we see often is a blinking of the check engine and D4 lights, sometimes accompanied by rough shifting. When this occurs, it’s likely due to a mechanical problem with the automatic transmission, however, if your car shifts normally then it can indicate a failure of the sensors, due either too compromised transmission fluid or simply a faulty sensor.

  1. Honda Civic

A very common complaint with the Civic is the airbag light turning on, which is often due to a failure in the occupancy sensors or the seat belt sensors, though it can indicate an actual problem with the seat belt or airbags themselves. It is recommended if you see the airbag light to take your car for servicing as soon as possible to make sure your airbags are working properly.

Sometimes, your Civic will suffer from vibration, rattles, or general roughness in the steering wheel, which often occurs as a result of a bad engine mount. The engine mount helps keep the engine in place while you drive, and when the mount starts to fail, the engine will move around while driving, causing roughness.

  1. Honda Insight

Insight can have engine responsiveness issues due to problems with the IMA. The IMA, or integrated motor assist, is a small computer that helps the engine utilize fuel more efficiently, however, problems with the IMA, including battery failure or software defects, can prevent it from working properly, causing the engine to become unresponsive or accelerate slowly.

Transmission shuddering or lurching is another common problem found with Insights, occurring when shifting into a higher gear. This is often due to a worn-out clutch in the transmission, which can occur either due to age or as a result of bad transmission fluid.
