Signage FAQs | How much will a custom commercial sign cost?—Franklin, TN

Posted in: Industry News

Among the many questions our clients have regarding custom commercial signage is the “cost” question.  And rightly so!  Like all wise stewards, our clients are watching their budgets to ensure that they spend responsibly and that they maximize the value of their funds.  We try to do the same!

There are often many approaches that can be taken to design and fabricate a business sign or a package of commercial signs.  There are also several different materials that can be used for most signs.  Through the initial conversations regarding a customer’s application, we try to discover key information regarding a sign’s intended design and marketing objectives, indoor and outdoor exposure, desired length of service life, and any other relevant factors that could steer decisions regarding fabrication and material selection.  In addition, we also encourage our customers to share their intended budgets with us so that we can quickly eliminate some options as being either too costly or too “cheap” for the intended objectives.

We like to present our customers with options to help them be part of the decision process.  As custom sign and design experts, we have our opinions regarding preferred approaches and selections, but we also desire and respect our customers’ input to ensure that we achieve an end result with which they’ll be pleased.

In order to be as accurate as possible in determining the estimated cost of a sign project, we use sophisticated, modern pricing software that was developed exclusively for the sign industry.  We monitor the cost of raw materials and update the software’s database to keep it current.  The software also accounts for equipment and labor time in addition to adjustments for the local market.

We look for ways to help our clients reduce a project cost.  For example, one recent project required the development of a custom post-and-panel “For Sale” sign for a real estate lot.  The customer was willing to purchase and deliver some of the raw materials (posts, gravel), which we then didn’t need to mark up with additional cost to cover any labor spent in going to the store.  It was a good collaborative way to work together to accomplish the customer’s sign need and budgetary constraints.

When it comes to considering the cost of an custom commercial sign, we encourage customers to also consider the “opportunity cost” of not having an effective sign!  Will potential customers not notice your business?  Will your old sign or a poorly design/constructed sign give the wrong impression to potential or current customers?  How many impressions have you missed because you didn’t have any or the right kind of commercial signs?

Two of the 12 compass points guiding our company dictate that we be trustworthy and helpful.  Honestly and clearly communicating cost information with our customers is a priority, and we commit to providing our customers with products and service that are both high-quality and fairly priced.

And a final word on this topic … We know that there will always be another sign company willing to be less expensive than we are.  And there will always be somebody else willing to be less expensive than the second guy, and so on!  But if you want to establish a relationship with a service-oriented sign company in Franklin TN that will still be in business the next time you need signs, call 12-Point SignWorks.  You won’t regret it, and neither will your pocket book!
