As in other years, a great emphasis was placed on lead generation and funding, perhaps the two biggest hurdles brokers face. As in any business, without good, quality leads not too many small businesses can succeed. The franchise broker industry is no exception! I had a great opportunity to talk to many brokers about some of my many lead generation efforts. I have partnered with some of the best sources in the franchise space to be able to provide quality leads to many brokers. I have been extremely happy with many of the great stories that I’ve heard from brokers having successfully placed some of their candidates in a franchise. It was nice to hear even more stories like this at the convention.
The other hot topic was funding. An increasingly more popular option has been the use of 401K/IRA funding to start a franchise. I work with a group called IRA Rollover Solutions, and we help folks use their retirement savings to help start a new franchise. This is done tax-free and penalty-free. Many of the other companies providing this service also attended the convention.
I look forward to next year’s meeting of this franchise association, and I’ll continue to try and develop new and better programs to help brokers and franchisors alike.

The annual Franchise Brokers Association convention was held last week inOrlando. As I have been the past three years, I flew down for this one. I always like attending events in which brokers come together to share stores and trade secrets of different happenings in the franchise industry. The main goal of brokers is to help individuals find a business that is best suited for them. At the convention, brokers are taught the best techniques to help clients in this pursuit.
