Challenges Facing the Company
A family-owned company hired us to facilitate an intergenerational change in leadership. The new leader was at the beginning of his career and needed coaching in leadership as well as key operational concepts. The company has historically been very successful despite the fact that they did not consistently rely on operational metrics for decision making.
How Did We Help?
Through the coaching relationship, FocalPoint and the client focused on two specific tracks: 1) leadership development and 2) operational efficiencies. While they started slow in introducing operational metrics, favorable results were realized in only a few months.
After working together for a short time, the new leader has developed a deeper understanding of the importance of clear communication and leadership. He has learned how to establish a rapport with his team, set appropriate expectations, and hold them accountable for results.
Operationally, the company had several inefficiencies in the end-to-end manufacturing process, which lead to higher costs and late deliveries. Working with his coach, the leader introduced time standards for each manufacturing department and is working to identify and remove bottlenecks. He established a weekly operations meeting in order to hold the manufacturing team accountable to the process and allow them to be part of the solution. The team is beginning to use the newly established metrics and is working together to improve the processes.
