The Prettiest Pathways Are Made From Natural Materials

When Peer Landscaping designs walkways for your landscaped yard we allow you to choose from a wide variety of different building materials. But over the years, we’ve found that our customers are usually happiest with the end result when they’ve chosen to use natural, organic materials, which at Peer Landscaping of Fort Myers, we love working with as well.

We think the award-winning landscape designer Claudia de Yong said it best when he was interviewed for LivingETC.com, “Gravel, sand and river rock feel best under the feet, both for animals and humans.” That’s why we create gorgeous walkways using these natural materials:

Flagstone: Looking like flat rocks in a stream, flagstone is one of the most popular walkway materials. Made of natural stone, it can be found in a wide array of shapes and colors to match your home, as well as different levels of thickness to match your landscaping. We know exactly how to place flagstone steppingstones for the ideal stepping distance so that they remain level and stable on the ground, keeping you safe from tripping hazards.

57 Stone: This crushed stone aggregate is a gravel-like material that can be employed in a plethora of different landscaping projects. Crushed stone is formed from natural rock deposits and is both angular and jagged in shape, unlike gravel, which has round edges due to the fact that it occurs naturally due to erosion. We can get this aggregate in stones that are an inch to an inch and a half in size. Because it is low cost and available in a wide variety of colors and sizes it’s a very popular walkways choice. It has a very nice informal look to it.

87 stone: Also made of crushed stone, this aggregate is similar in size to pebbles. It also comes in a wide variety of colors just like 57 stone. It makes a great base for other materials like flagstone steppingstones to be laid on top of it, making a lovely riverbed appearance for your landscape.

Natural Bark Mulch: Mulch made of natural wood is one of professional landscapers’ most commonly used utility materials. Usually, it is used in garden beds to nourish them by holding in moisture and minimizing weeds. It is also used to create a protective barrier around trees so that you don’t have to weed wack around them. Mulch can also be used along your garden walkway to create a beautiful natural-looking path that is very budget friendly.

Brazilian teak wood: Brazilian teak, also called Cumaru, is identified by the rich, warm color of the wood. Brazilian teak is resistant to rot and very durable, which makes it a great option for our Florida heat and humidity. We love how it looks, and it’s affordable as well as easy to install.

Pine straw: Gathered from fallen pine needles, which are hand-raked, cleaned and then baled, pine straw is an all-natural mulch, that’s an environmentally friendly selection for your natural walkway. There are a number of reasons it’s considered to be environmentally friendly, including the fact that no trees have to be cut down to create it. Pine straw is good for your landscaping as well. It reduces weed growth and reduces evaporation from the soil. It’s a great option for our Southwest Florida summers because it stays in place even during heavy downpours. Best of all, it looks like a path in the forest, giving your landscape a a beautiful natural look.
