These vertically layered clusters are also a pleasing to the eye, so we tend to duplicate them in an orderly way when designing a landscape.
Most people find symmetrical design to be pleasing to the eye and much more peaceful to look at. That’s why a big part of landscape design is creating order out of chaos. After all, if you’ve ever walked through the woods or a jungle, the chaotic nature of the way the plants grow can be a bit overwhelming, and our subtropical climate encourages that kind of overgrowth. We will look to plant some that are long and narrow, some short and wide, and create patterns that can be organic or geometric in shape, depending on how formal you want that design to be.
The size of your site should dictate the type of landscape design we use, and we will certainly take that proportionality into account when we are creating a look for your location. A small courtyard should have smaller masses of plants or just a few large plants. The flower beds in front of a house should have larger masses of plants to avoid looking chaotic and spotty.
Since viewing distance changes your perception when looking at things, we always take into account how close you, your friends, and family will be to the plants we are installing. For example, smaller masses of plants, with fewer plants in general, works better when designing for a small courtyard because you will be viewing them up close, so individual plants stand out more.
