Fort Myers, FL – At Judy’s Jewelry and Antiques, Everything Old Is New Again

Posted in: Industry News

The past couple of years have been chaotic. Maybe that’s the reason we are seeing so many people and even restaurants turning to vintage and antique items. After all, what’s more comforting than eating off granny-style tableware. It goes so well with the resurgence of making homemade bread, a skill many picked up during their time staying home. We at Judy’s Antique and Estate Jewelry of Fort Myers are excited to be moving away from the plain white plates that had been trending for so long, and moving toward heavy earthenware, or delicately flowered porcelain. Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a look at some of the trending styles in vintage tableware, from serving plates, to teaspoons, dishes to glassware.

Primary Colored Granny Plates

Brilliant color lifts the human spirit. That’s why many people are setting their table with vintage granny plates in primary colors such as bright yellows, classic blues and sassy reds. These brilliant hues bring playful energy to your table, perfect for parties, and also for weekday family meals. Certain brands were created for mixing and matching such as the ever popular Fiesta Ware. Introduced in the 1970s Fiesta Ware comes in 14 different colors from the expensive and hard to find medium green to the controversial red. Fiesta Ware is very trendy right now, and has been a treasured collectible for years.

Earthenware in Earthy Colors and patterns

Is it our nation’s current love affair with shows like Yellowstone that is making us nostalgic for rustic earthy table settings? Perhaps it’s our desire to reconnect with nature? Whatever the reason, earthy browns and calm grays are taking center stage creating a relaxed, warm table setting. Hardy earthenware and stoneware in rough textures and crackled finishes have become popular table setting choices perfect for everyday or entertaining.

From the 1920s to the 2020s

The Art Deco design originally created in the 1920s is an opulent historical trend making a showing right now. In counterpoint to the casual everyday look, this plateware is decorated luxuriously in a glamorous way with geometric patterns and monochromatic coloring. The timeless look is often created in minimalistic black and white, and often has silver or gold accents. Perfect for impressing guests at a lovely dinner party!

Mixing and Matching Adds Charm

When having guests over, we all want to set a table that’s so inviting everyone will want to linger for hours at the table chatting and connecting with each other. A fun way to create this charming kind of table is to mix and match different place settings. Of course you don’t want to create a chaotic look, so when buying vintage place settings of different types, create cohesion by choosing a specific color scheme or pattern. It could be plates that all have a blue and white pattern, like Blue Onion, or perhaps all the plates on the table have a small floral pattern, but in different shades. Try to stick with dinnerware that is all made of similar material, such as all porcelain or all stoneware, to have the table feel more cohesive.
