Current Trends in Vintage Engagement Rings

Springtime is always a time of romance and renewal, so giving your significant other a vintage engagement ring certainly fits the bill for both! This year vintage engagement rings are particularly trendy, but what are the trends that are popular right now? At Judy’s Antique & Estate Jewelry, here’s what we’re seeing as the current trends.

Art deco emeralds – One of the most popular stones in the vintage market right now, these emeralds stand out because there are only a few contemporary styles of emeralds currently available. If you choose an emerald, be careful, though; they’re a softer gem more susceptible to damage than other gemstones common in engagement rings, such as diamonds. The art deco style dates back to the 1920s and 1930s.

Aquamarine – Aquamarine rings surged in popularity after Prince Harry gave his mother’s aquamarine and diamond ring to Meghan Markle when they became engaged. Since then, more people are viewing aquamarine as a popular alternative to diamonds.

French – French rings from the 1920s have a classic look: a solitaire engagement style featuring a prong-set center stone. These rings have been a fixture since they first became prevalent in the 1880s. These older diamond rings stand out today thanks to the diamonds being hand-cut, giving them a unique shape that is quite different from the sleek diamonds of modern rings.

Edwardian – Dating back as far as the turn of the 20th century, these rings are known for their intricate, extremely-detailed settings. They opt more for white gold and platinum than real gold, with smaller stones cut and combined to fit the design of the setting.

Band Style Rings– Traditionally men in many European countries have given an eternity band as a engagement ring instead of the single stone engagement ring. These two-in-one style rings are also perfect for the amount of handwashing we are doing these days as they are easier to clean and sanitize and are more durable for the constant hand sanitizing, we do.

European Cuts—Old European cuts often have unique faceting patterns that make them one of a kind and very timeless feeling. One of the reasons engagement rings are so important is they make a bride to be feel special, and she should have a one-of-a-kind ring to reflect that.

Victorian—Because blue was Queen Victoria’s favorite color, engagement rings from this time period often had sapphire or aquamarine as their main gemstone. Also popular from this time period are engagement rings that have small seed pearls surrounding the central gemstone.
