Do you think you’re totally safe from the novel coronavirus? Go through these insights about the Covid-19 and how it can be prevented.

Covid-19 is a novel strain of coronaviruses that was first diagnosed in Wuhan, China, following a pneumonia outbreak. The virus has spread to more than 160 countries around the world and has been declared as a pandemic by the WHO.Stay at home

Where has the Covid-19 come from?

Initially, the Covid-19 was thought to have originated in an animal food market in Wuhan, China, where the animal to human transmission took place. While some researchers claim that the virus came from a species of snake, the topic remains controversial. If you think about the causes of previous coronaviruses, they were shown to have originated from bats and camels. However, a solid answer for the Covid-19 is yet to be discovered.

How Quickly Can the Covid-19 spread?

Apparently, the Covid-19 has proved to be outrageously contagious. Like SARS and MERS, the Covid-19 spreads through respiratory droplets released when a person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are near the infected person. The exponential rate of coronavirus case increases is a clear indication that the person-to-person transmission is occurring. Even healthcare professionals trying to help patients recover couldn’t resist getting infected. A large number of doctors have lost their lives in countries where the crisis is serious.

According to what’ve experienced until now, a single case can generate more cases over its infectious period. The average number of cases caused by an infected person is estimated to be 1.4 to 2.5. This means whoever tests positive for the Covid-19 can infect 1.4 to 2.5 people. But this is just an average, and that too an estimate. Someone who tests positive should think over who they met in the last few days before the test. Everyone who met them is under threat.

How to Prevent Covid-19?

There is a range of preventive measures recommended by the WHO to protect oneself from the Covid-19, including:

  • Stay at home:If the pandemic has already been detected in your country, don’t wait until the situation exacerbates. Do your best to stay at home as well as ensure the same for your family. Request your supervisor to allow you to work from home. Decide on a day of the week to get the basic necessities from a nearby store. If the number of cases increases, purchase grocery in bulk, perhaps for 2 upcoming months.
  • Clean your home regularly:The respiratory droplets through which the virus spreads can stay on surfaces for days, which is why it’s critical to clean and disinfect the surfaces on a regular basis. Use detergents for cleaning and appropriate chemicals for disinfecting.
  • Clean your hands: Use water and soap or an alcohol-based hand-rub to clean your hands frequently. Also, use hand sanitizers from time to time.
  • Cover your mouth and nose:When there’s a critical need to go out, be sure to wear a surgical mask. While that’s not important at home, you must cover your mouth and nose while sneezing or coughing.
