Neurotoxins AKA Injectables for Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Neurotoxin injections are a popular treatment for signs of aging. Neurotoxin injectables include Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin®. In the United States these are the four most commonly used neurotoxins injected for the treatment of the signs of aging. At The Skin Society, we prefer to use Dysport® but Botox® is available.
What Does it Treat?
Laugh lines, smile lines, frown lines and crow’s feet; call them what you will, these fine lines and wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial muscle movements. Smoking, sun damage and genetics further contribute to these early signs of aging. As we age, these lines become deep creases and wrinkles. These deep creases and wrinkles can cause you to appear unhappy, angry or years older. One of the most effective treatments to effectively smooth and soften fine lines and wrinkles is Dysport®.
As with other neurotoxin injections, Dysport® works by temporarily relaxing facial muscles and eases the muscle tension that causes fine lines and wrinkles. Treatments can be performed in under 30 minutes. You can return to work immediately following treatment; however you don’t want to lie down or lift anything 4 hours post treatment. It is important to refrain from exercising the rest of the day, following your treatment. You may resume your normal activity the next day and can expect full effect of the treatment between 7 – 14 days. We often recommend including microneedling as part of the treatment regiment to achieve maximum results in alleviating fine line and wrinkles.
