All moving companies are required to have a PUC license to do business in the state of California. To obtain this license they have to show that they have financial and safety fitness and prove that they have adequate insurance. They are also subject to criminal background clearance. If you are considering hiring a moving company you should check with the California PUC to find out if they have a license in good standing.
When you call the PUC to inquire about a moving company, they will also give you the mover’s physical address. You’ll want to verify that the address and the PUC number the mover is using match what the PUC has on record. You can also make sure they don’t have any complaints filed against them and that their license hasn’t been suspended.
