ADA Braille signs can be produced two ways. The raster braille method is easy, secure, clean, durable, cost effective and 100% compliant with ADA regulations and standards. Raster braille signs are produced using an engraving machine while photopolymer signs are manufactured through a photographic/chemical process. Beads are embedded by hand into holes that the engraving machine produces. These beads are rounded and are fully compliant with all ADA laws and standards. When photopolymer signs are produced it is difficult to produce rounded Braille dots. This makes it difficult to comply with ADA standards.
Matching existing signs? Color matching can be a problem not only for the match but for the cost. A short run is nearly as costly as a long run making photopolymer signs more expensive than raster braille signs. The painted surface of photopolymer isn’t as durable as the surface of the raster braille signage.
