Uptown, Charlotte, NC – Wayfinding Signs for Large Complexes

BY: Your Name, Your Business

Navigating your way through a vacation resort, college campus, or any additional place you aren’t familiar with may be confusing. Below are some examples of fantastic wayfinding options for massive complexes.

Deakin University

The touch screen displays above in Australia’s Deakin University offer floor-by-floor guides, campus maps, as well as step-by-step directions for current and visiting students. The campus takes advantage of digital screens’ versatility, providing educational trivia and friendly reminders as the screens are not being utilized for wayfinding on campus.

Recently, Australia’s Falls Creek Resort updated its strategy for wayfinding with the above effective directional sign. The sign was made to be utilized for the whole year because they provide recreation within all seasons. The sign is color coded for guests depending upon which season of the year they come to the resort. Also, the resort opted to keep the design simplistic as the mountain terrain often can confuse visitors. Bus routes and village maps are consistently posted everywhere to make sure guests remain on the proper course.

V&A Ceramics Galleries

It shouldn’t come as any shock that an art gallery situated in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum utilized a highly creative wayfinding option.  The Victoria and Albert Ceramics Galleries, fourteen galleries altogether, include a portion of the globe’s biggest design museum. The galleries utilize wall graphics to assist guests in navigating the area, while cards and labels offer educational information and directions.

Porto University’s Science & Technology Park

Portugal’s Science & Technology Park at the Porto University had a desire for its campus wayfinding signs to reflect an experimental education approach. Therefore, they transformed the above sparsely designed hallways to optical illusions with wall graphics. The room numbers appear to stretch and shift while progressing down the halls, and create an engaging and interesting walk. The primary objective of wayfinding options includes informing and helping guests, particularly as it’ll come to large complexes and campuses.
