After working at a sign company, it's hard not to notice signs all around you. No, really, they're everywhere! From billboards to overhanging awnings to even just lettering on buildings, the average person passes over a hundred billboards a day. At this point, signs seem to be as ubiquitous in our everyday lives as trees, maybe even more. This is a fact that has discouraged many from investing in signs, but it shouldn't be. The everyday person may not be quite as aware of signage as I have become, but they do notice and take note.

Signage has been around since the days of Ancient Egypt and Babylon and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It may change as technology evolves and produces new ways of advertising, but signs are so much more than advertisements. Monument signs are helpful with advertising, that's true, but they also mark the building where the business is located and present the company's image. How would you know which business you were trying to find if not for dimensional lettering, except maybe going door to door and hoping you get lucky? And, of course, lobby signs wouldn't be much help with advertising, except for cases of mistaken identity. A world without signs would be a confusing one, to be sure.
So how can signage help you and your business? To be short: advertisement, branding, and identification. Use it to draw new people in, help them find you with ease, and mold their perception of your business.
