Making 3D Office Wall Logos with Special Readability in Mind

Because we had the specs on file, we could do the design of the product without having to take up the client’s time. That said, the client requested that we focus particular attention on making the sign easy to read from the side. What is the special way of handling this request?

Easy! We used one-inch-thick PVC for the larger letters and logo pieces. For the smaller lettering, we used half-inch-thick material instead. The smaller letters are much easier to read from a specific angle within the office space.

The final elements of the design were the custom logo colors and the installation. In this particular setting, we stud-mounted the style elements to the wall for a solid hold that was aesthetically attractive. The finished product impresses with the combination of blue and black colors and varying letter depths.

3D Letter Variations Make Sense

It is interesting to note that requests for varying depths are more common than you think. Reading a sign from a specific angle is one reason. Another has to do with the idea of introducing motion into the signage itself. For example, if you gradually reduce and then increase the depths of the letters, you give the illusion that the sign is moving in a waveform. Conversely, you can create this look when you install 3D letters with standoffs that vary in length.

How to Increase the Depth of the Letters

We have talked about the advantages of depth reductions. That said, there are also advantages to boosting the depths of the three-dimensional letters you are working with. For interior signs, we typically recommend using Gatorfoam at its maximum depth. Once cut, we can add acrylic or metallic laminates to tease a little more thickness out of the design.

If you are looking for a way to make this work for building letters, consider selecting fabricated 3D letters. Their depths can eclipse that of some channel letters. When you want even more thickness and visibility, there is the option of placing the letters on a panel that also presents an impressive thickness.
