Bridgeview, IL – Get Your Home Inspected for the Following Types of Mold

SYNOPSIS:

BY: Kelly Mickley, STOP of Bridgeview

Do you suspect mold growth in your home? Here are the mold types to watch out for.

Mold growth in homes is far more common than most people would admit. Even though some mold types aren’t as dangerous as the rest, they shouldn’t be ignored. You may not realize this, but prolonged exposure to all types of mold can make you sick, even if you have a strong immune system. In the following paragraphs, we will discuss the different types of mold you should watch out for.

So, let’s begin.

Pathogenic Mold

This type of mold is dangerous, as it can lead to diseases and infections. However, most individuals who have a healthy immune system can win the battle against pathogens. People with a weaker immune system often succumb to this type of mold and develop allergies and respiratory issues. Therefore, pathogenic mold is also known as opportunistic mold. The people who fall prey to pathogenic mold include young children and aging adults.

Allergenic Mold

Allergenic mold doesn’t affect everyone. It affects people who are already suffering from asthma and allergies. When such individuals are exposed to this type of mold, they tend to have a hypersensitive reaction. During these reactions, a large number of mast cells are activated. Therefore, the affected person may experience a severe inflammatory response in their respiratory system.

You can remove this type of mold with home disinfecting products but if it gets out of hand, you will need to call a professional.

Toxic Mold

Toxic mold produces toxic chemicals that are known as mycotoxins. Toxic mold is very harmful for human and animal health. Unlike the two types of mold we discussed in the previous paragraphs, this type of mold directly harms its victims. Mycotoxins are dangerous, and they can be found in mold, as well as mold spores. One can easily get exposed to mycotoxins through inhalation, ingestion, and dermal exposure. Depending on the person and their immune system, the effects of mycotoxin exposure can vary. Sometimes the effects of mycotoxin exposure can be temporary, while sometimes they can last longer than one thinks.

Regardless of what kind of mold you are faced with, eliminating it is the best thing you can do. Mold not only makes your health suffer, but it also weakens the structural integrity of your building. Furthermore, the presence of mold also alludes to a hidden water source, which in most cases is a leakage, so take heed.
