What does the color of the mold indicate? Even though mold should not have any place in the house, certain situations let this happen. Most commonly it’s a result of underlying water damage around your property. Regardless of where you come across is, it’s never a good feeling to see mold in your home, whether it’s the bathroom or the garage. Whenever you encounter mold in your house, your best plan of action should be to get it removed as soon as possible and then treat with the issue that caused it.  While all molds are bad, some can be more toxic to human health than others.  They can trigger rashes, allergies, asthma attacks, infections, etc. Sometimes they can even cause brain infections or blood poisoning. The color of the mold can tell you its type and give an idea about how dangerous it can be. Here we are listing down a few common colors of mold that people come across at homes. Green Mold Green is probably the most generic color of mold and there are thousands of varieties of green mold. This means it’s difficult to identify the type by just looking at the color of the mold. You’ll have to probe deeper to detect the exact nature of the green-colored mold. Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Cladosporium are among the most common forms of green mold. No matter which type of green mold you see, it’s best to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Black Mold Black mold is most frequently Alternaria which is typically found in damp and dusty outdoor spaces and near plants and soil. Exposure to Alternaria can increase the risk of asthma. They are also linked to skin, eye and sinus infections. White Mold White mold is also known as Chaetomium and is usually found in dark and damp conditions especially in the basement and attic. It has a cotton-like appearance and it is one of the more musty smelling molds. On the walls, it looks like salt deposits left on the walls. Other than attacking cold, damp and dark spaces, this mold also targets old food products. This type of mold causes eye irritation, respiratory infections, nausea, dizziness, and headaches. Greenish-Black Mold This one goes by the name of Stachbotrys chartarum and is a highly toxic mold that releases mycotoxins. Exposure to certain mycotoxins can be extremely dangerous for you and your family. Certain warning signs that could indicate exposure to mycotoxins include persistent coughing, rashes, periodic headaches, and lethargy. Getting exposed to this toxic mold may prove to be life-threatening for people with preexisting conditions such as asthma and allergies. This mold is typically found in old rotting wood, leaky areas, old, paper, and foods. To Sum Up All types of mold are annoying and bad for health, no matter how they look.
