Guidance Available to Support Company Leaders

BY: ,

Leading a team requires the right mindset and a few key skills, and as a company leader it’s essential to equip your team leaders with the things they need to succeed. So many companies find a high performing employee on the ground and throw them into a leadership role with no training or guidance and expect them to thrive, but being a leader and a good worker are two very different things.

As a business coach who works in Bowling Green and the surrounding areas, I have been fortunate enough to work with some great leaders during my time in the corporate world and now as a coach, and I have found a few key traits of team leaders which I now share during my coaching sessions.

In the sections to follow, I will discuss these traits to give you a better idea of how my team leadership training can help your middle managers thrive and, in turn, help your company perform at its highest level.

Improve Communication

No matter the size, scale or industry of an organization, effective communication from top to bottom is essential for success. Team leaders are in such a unique position because it’s their job to be the conduit which carries the vision, tasks and responsibilities of their people from senior leadership to the people working on the ground.

This responsibility requires a great ability to listen, understand and communicate, because a team leader must have the ability to break down the goal in a way their team members will understand and secure their buy-in to their role. For this reason, communication is key and in my training we discuss how to be a master communicator by being clear and concise, and by actively listening before you select your words.

Promote Delegation

Team leaders can’t lead a team if they are always working on the ground alongside them. While a team leader should be willing to jump and provide assistance, guidance and training when they’re needed, their role should be focused on equipping their team members with the skills they need to perform tasks and then assigning them those tasks. This isn’t easy for new team leaders, but delegation is essential for success as a manager of other people. When I train team leaders, I help them understand why delegation is important, how to know if someone is equipped for success and how to follow up to ensure delegated tasks are completed.

Lead Your Way

Confidence is key for leaders of any team, and a person is most confident when they can be themselves. You don’t have to take on a new persona to lead. Quiet, reserved people can be just as effective leaders as loud and boisterous people. In any case, you must have the desire to lead and confidence in your skills, so when I train people I help them learn skills which match their personality style and help them become comfortable using their skills to lead others.
