Moline, IL – Hamilton Elementary School
It’s a great joy for students and staff when a school gets an overhaul. A much needed renovation that brings the school up to date. Hamilton Elementary School in Moline, IL recently got a much needed rebuild.
Riverbend Signworks got an opportunity to do some of the finishing touches in the new school. Part of the project called for new vinyl graphics to be placed in various places throughout the school.
The new entry way and commons area got a new school mascot on the wall. The project was done in vinyl and pieced together during installation. The vinyl is a high-tac vinyl from Avery. Do to the low VOC paints used in schools, this specialty vinyl was needed to ensure the vinyl stayed in place. Using a 40′ lift, a squeegee tool and a steady hand, the vinyl was applied in large sections.
Overall, this application took one man approx. a full 8 hours to apply. Much of the time was spent making sure the large sections matched up, as well as maneuvering the lift into just the right spot.
In the end, the students and staff had a 14′ snarling wildcat to be proud of.
The brand new gymnasium also needed a touch of Wildcat pride. Using the same high-tac vinyl and lift, this mascot went up the same way.
One of the tricky parts of this install was centering the mascot on a very long, high wall. Granted, even if the decal was one foot off, it would not have been much in the grand scheme. But, to the human eye, it would noticeable and enough to require a redo.
Have you ever heard of a wordle, or word cloud? Well, they are a trendy way of expressing multiple words and thoughts into a mural setting.
This expression of art seemed like a perfect piece for a new elementary school. This wordle consisted of multiple colors and used a very unique font. The words are inspirational and uplifting , very appropriate for a school setting.
The most difficult part of this project was the placement at the top of a set of stairs. The installation required precise, and safe, placement of the scaffolding.
Of course, this vinyl was laminated for protection against curious hands.
Hamilton Elementary now as a creative and interactive piece on display.
Schools are a wonderful place for vinyl projects. There is already creativity and excitement in the air. Riverbend Signworks would be happy to create wordles and mascots all day.
