There are numerous types of signs, hundreds of sign materials and an immeasurable number of reasons to use a sign. So, it would be impossible to attempt to cover it all. But, one fact is is obvious–sign shops talk a lot about vinyl.
The versatility of vinyl has been discussed on our very own page, so this post isn’t about versatility. We covered different types of vinyl and when to use each type, so, no post on vinyl applications. Really, we’re going to use this post as a visual tool. And maybe, we’ll brag a little about a few of our projects.
Recently, a new internet provider came to Davenport, IA. They set up shop in a small strip mall on a busy street that runs end-to-end through Davenport. This updated shop included a wonderful display-ready showcase of windows facing one of the busiest streets in town. So, what did the new owners do? They dressed up their windows.
SpeedConnect knew immediately they wanted perforated window vinyl so they could let light in and take advantage of the natural light. And, of course, they wanted to let everyone know they were in town. After some layout tweaks and a few measurements, we had the new shop beaming with fresh, new window graphics.
Another Davenport endeavor was in the gym of a new school being built. The walls of a gym are vast and bare. As you know, schools love to promote their teams and their mascots. So, naturally, the new gym at Mid City High called for a shiny new coat of team spirited wall graphics.
Using a 2-man crew and a scissor lift, we spent the day applying graphics to walls in strategic locations. The signage in the top panels is also stretched vinyl banners in handy snap frames. Most would agree that the gym looks ready for upcoming sporting events.
Across the River, in Moline, IL, a new school addition needed some inspiration. This came in the form of a Wordle. What’s a Wordle? We didn’t know either until we found ourselves helping design a jumbled up mess of words, or a word cloud. In actuality, this mess is well organized. Look closely and you’ll see inspirational words artistically arranged to capture the attention of students, faculty and visitors.
We set up scaffolding and got to work. This project was printed and cut in large sections, then pieced together on site. The key is to make sure each panel is straight when applied. If a panel is even slightly off, the next will be, as well.
On opening day, the students were greeted with their brand new Wordle. It’s even fun to say.
Yes, it’s true, we talk a lot about vinyl. It’s a favorite of ours and a favorite of our clients. When we need to come up with a sign solution, vinyl always makes its way into the conversation.
