Minco High School called us because they were having a few different problems, with one of those problems being excessive heat. A few of the rooms were becoming very hot and their air-conditioning wasn’t able to keep the rooms at a comfortable temperature. Instead of buying a portable air-conditioning unit, which would have created an ongoing cost, we installed window tinting film.
Window tinting films reject a lot of what you don’t want from the sun, and allow a lot of the sunlight that you do want to pass through. For example, the films we installed for Minco High School reject up to 99% of ultraviolet rays. These rays are the ones that cause damage to human skin and can lead to cancer. They also one of the major culprits that cause fading and cracking to interior furnishings, floors and more.
The film that we installed, called Huper Optik Fusion 10, also rejects up to 88% of glare. It allows most of the visible light to pass through, but just without all the glare. Without having to squint your eyes in order to see, and without your eyes having to work so hard to focus, the view becomes much more clear. You could compare it to the difference between a television from the 80s and an HD 4K television from 2016. Sunlight passes through, but it is much more controlled and filtered, thus improving the clarity.
When it comes to excessive heat, which causes the higher cooling costs, window tinting films are a great alternative to air-conditioning.
In terms of costs, air-conditioning is a recurring cost that will continue from month-to-month and add up over time. The more you use it the more expensive it is. Window films are a fixed cost and don’t require ongoing maintenance of any kind.
Most importantly, they stop the problem at the source. Window tinting films typically have either tiny metal or ceramic particles embedded in the film which rejects and prevent the unwanted sunlight from passing through the film and entering the building in the first place. Air-conditioning merely tries to fight against the heat that keeps entering the space, requiring it to be run until the sun has gone down or the room is no longer hot.
Window films can reject up to 80% or more of solar heat, preventing your school from getting so hot in the first place. If you only had to run your air-conditioning units even half as much, how much money would you save?
