Have you ever notice that your car drips water in the summer time when you run the air conditioning? It does. The reason for this drip is that as the humid air passes thru the cold evaporator ice is formed. When that ice melts the water drips out of a drain thru the bottom of the car and onto the ground. That is a normal condition.
So why am I bringing this up in the dead of winter? Because this same “pulling moisture out of the air”, can be really helpful in drying out the inside of your car. The best example of this is when you turn on your air conditioning on a cold morning the AC will really defog your windows quickly. The AC dries the air and the fan blows it across the glass and defogs the window. I know it sounds crazy to turn your air conditioner on when its freezing outside. You need to try this to believe it. It really works.
Now here is the secret of doing this so you don’t turn into a big block of ice inside of your clear windowed car. Turn the heater on too. Yes that’s right. The AC will dry the air and then the heater heats this nice dry air back up and you get warm dry air to warm your cols hands and defogged windows too. Another nice side effect is that this dry hot air is good at drying out the cars carpet and upholstery so the whole inside of your car doesn’t start smelling like a wet puppy. Enjoy life in the dry lane.
