What kinds of heating systems are available?
There are many ways to heat a space. The most common systems include:
- Furnaces
- Boilers
- Heat Pumps
- Gas-Fired Space Heaters
Of course, portable electric space heaters are available as well, but they are inefficient and can be dangerous under the right circumstances.
Fireplaces and wood pellet stoves provide some heating element as well, and so they can be incorporated as a hearth in your home providing both symbolic warmth and actual warmth too!
What should I use for my purposes?
A vast majority of homes in the United States use a furnace, which pushes hot air through the ductwork of the home to effectively heat the space. Also referred to as a forced warm-air system, the furnace relies on natural gas, oil, or fossil fuels to create heat for the home.
In most situations, Cozy Conditions recommends a furnace as the central component of the heating system.
Another viable option, however, is the boiler, which is a specialized water heater that heats the water for distribution to radiators and other heat sources throughout the home before the cooled water returns back to the boiler for reheating. Also called a hydronic system, a boiler is a great option in most situations as well and can be heated using oil or natural gas depending on what is available in your neighborhood.
What else is needed for a heating system?
Most of the time, you need only to replace a few components of the system to make it function like new. For instance, a brand-new furnace or air handler will provide incredible improvements to your indoor air quality while the ductwork, thermostat, and other components need not be changed at all.
On the other hand, an overhaul or a brand-new system from soup to nuts is a little more involved, but it can be done! Key components will include all of the aforementioned, but you’ll need ductwork running to each room for forced air systems or steam pipes for systems that include radiators.
Whatever system you prefer, Cozy Conditions will be able to get it done without issue. Not sure what works best? No problem! Simply call your Cozy Conditions specialists and they’ll recommend something that works perfectly for your purposes.
