Foods to Eat During Phases of Your Cycle That Can Help You Get Pregnant

MARCH IS NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH! Food should be your medicine Not your disease. Sugar and inflammation is the source of all disease in the body. Eating the right food reduces inflammation in the body and improves your overall health, mood, and reproductive function. If the root cause of the inflammation is addressed with the right foods, you can begin the healing process, live your healthiest life, and for those trying to conceive you can increase your chances of embryo implantation and pregnancy.

So how can you reduce inflammation? Stay away from sugar (cakes, pies, cookies, sodas…) processed foods (hot dogs, deli meats, canned foods…), dairy (milk, cheese, ice cream…) unless organic with no hormones, saturated fat (potato chips, mayonnaise…) Eat more fruits, vegetables, organic lean meats, eggs and drink lots of water to name a few things.

While there’s no official “fertility diet” Hope Fertility Support & Wellness Center, Inc. customizes fertility nutrition plans based on your overall health and diagnosis that will support optimal nutrition and the reproductive system. Let’s look at some foods that are beneficial during phases of the menstrual cycle. It’s important to support each phase of your cycle as it takes approximately 90 days for an egg to mature. So, if you think about it, what you eat starting today, will impact the mature egg 90 days from now that could be your baby.

During the Menstruation Phase Eat & Avoid the Following:

It is likely that you may feel crampy, moody, tired, and bloated. This part of the cycle sucks but it is very normal. Your body is just shedding its uterine lining since the egg did not fertilize and implant for a pregnancy.

Eat: leafy green vegetables, lean meats, seeds, beans, and fish, Omega-3 fatty supplement, vitamin C supplement. Drink plenty of water!! Even if you don’t like it, it’s not only about you right now. Make the change, drink plenty of water.

Avoid: alcohol, caffeine, processed foods and sugar

During the Follicular Phase Eat & Avoid the Following:

During this phase you will have more estrogen levels. Your body will be hard at work trying to develop a dominant follicle. Remember that 90 days from now this little follicle could be your baby.

Eat: green vegetables, nuts, seeds, eggs, fish, and legumes, kale, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. Drink plenty of water!! Even if you don’t like it, it’s not only about you right now. Make the change, drink plenty of water.

Avoid: alcohol, caffeine, processed foods and sugar

During the Ovulation Phase Eat & Avoid the Following:

The phase of excitement!!! This could possibly be the month. During this phase have lots of sex and continue to eat healthy!!! Eat foods that are rich in B vitamins, zinc, and EFAs. Your body needs energy more than ever during this phase and ample blood supply in the uterus to support implantation

Eat: whole grains, meat, fish, eggs, legumes, and leafy greens. Drink plenty of water!! Even if you don’t like it, it’s not only about you right now. Make the change, drink plenty of water.

Avoid: alcohol, caffeine, processed foods and sugar

During the Luteal Phase Eat & Avoid the Following:

The phase of excitement!!! This could possibly be the month. During this phase demands nutrients that support and encourage cellular growth. Eat foods that are rich in beta-carotene and bromelain. Eat foods that support continual progesterone production. The uterine lining must maintain its thickness for implantation.

Eat: pineapple, warm vegetable soups, leafy greens (preferably cooked and served hot), carrots, cantaloupe and sweet potatoes. Drink plenty of water!! Even if you don’t like it, it’s not only about you right now. Make the change, drink plenty of water.

Avoid: alcohol, caffeine, processed foods, sugar, cold foods or raw vegetables. Yes that means no ice cream during this phase. Sorry!
