- Channel Letter: Term for metal or plastic that is shaped a specific way, esp. for used in LED signs.
- These channel letters were mounted with several types of backers to create a multi-layered look. The letters are illuminated internally, and the faces light up at night. The white part of the “FIREHOUSE” is the face of the channel letter. The led sign lights are placed inside of each letter and the light shows through each letter. The “SUBS” is a light box with translucent vinyl on the face to give the appearance of a channel letter. The led lights are placed inside the box and the light shines through the yellow part. The whole sign is placed on a backer for that extra 3 dimensional quality.
These “Learning Express” channel letters are individually flush mounted with different colored translucent vinyl on the faces. LED lights are placed inside each letter. The “TOYS” part of the sign is constructed with individual channel letters flush mounted with a flat backer.

These channel letters are mounted on a raceway. Some property management companies will not allow individually mounted letters on the building and raceways are mandatory. If you look closely, you can see the bar right behind each letters. The bar or raceway, is painted to match the color of the building paint so that it blends in.
The last type of channel letter we are going to discuss is called a reverse channel letter sign. These letters have led lights inside but the face does not light up. The letters stand off the building and the light bounces off the background. This creates a dramatic effect when seen at night.
